1. HIGHLIGHTS
----------------
DATES
Registration: July 23, 202
Convention July 24 to August 2 2004
2. PLACE
The very best we can hope for -- like a dream come true. The facilities used for
Tokyo Olympics right in the heart of Tokyo near Yoyogi Park: Roughly:
* ARTISTIC: Yoyogi National Stadium 2nd Gymnasium
* RACES: Metropolitan Yoyogi Park Track&Field Stadium
* MUNI: FUJIMI Panorama All Round Resort (near Mount Fuji)
* FACILITIES: National Olympics Memorial Youth Center (maybe from only $15 or so
a night)
Almost all events including basketball and hockey will be at the Yoyogi facility,
all within walking distance in one of the nicest areas of Tokyo-- Harajuku.
2. QUICK SURVEY
---------------
All of the above is almost certain but is nevertheless provisional. We must
determine, as soon as humanly possible, roughly how many non-Japanese riders
will attend so as to get the reservations for the National Olympics Memorial
Youth Center.
Previous email from John Foss indicates that we can expect at least 300 riders.
We know that China, Korea and probably Singapore and Israel will join us, and
based on previous Unicons and the fact that lodging will be VERY cheap, I would
be very surprised if we have less than 400 -- probably over 500. We must know
the number now as we cannot change it after the reservation is completed. If
less people show up, no problem as we can fill it up with Japanese.
3. OTHER QUESTIONS
--------------------
On basketball, we need to know roughly how long it will take to do all the
matches, including
preliminaries. The gym is very expensive to rent. Would one full day be enough (except
for
the finals). How many teams can we expect?
The same question goes for hockey, which except for the finals will probably be
held in the tennis court. Would one full day be enough? How many teams can we
expect?
